Three episodes and a click-through slide presentation for teaching this principle with care.
Part 1: Values-Based Teaching
In this episode, we’ll explore the values-based framework that should guide how we teach the Law of Chastity, moving beyond a focus on rules and restrictions to help learners understand the values and principles behind them. We’ll break down the three components of the Law of Chastity and explore the first set of values that can help shape how we teach, discuss, and understand this principle. Be sure to watch Parts 2 and 3, where we’ll explore the remaining components, discuss how we can channel sexual energy in ways that strengthen our sexual integrity, and address abuse, including why responsibility for abuse always belongs to the person who causes harm, never the victim.
Part 2: Values, Desire, and Eros Energy
In Part 2, we pick up right where Part 1 left off, exploring the remaining values at the heart of the Law of Chastity and examining how certain behaviors, including pornography use, can influence our development of those values. We’ll also explore how to channel sexual desire into meaningful forms of creative expression, unpack the concept of eros energy, and consider how our sexuality can become a source of creativity, connection, and personal growth.
Part 3: Abuse, Coercion, and Safety
Part 3 is an essential episode that should not be skipped. We address abuse, coercion, and manipulation, including common ways youth and young adults are targeted and why being a victim never means you have broken the Law of Chastity. We also explore why these conversations are especially important in religious settings, affirming that no position of authority or level of respect within a congregation makes abuse acceptable. Christ never intended for your love to be used against you or asked you to sacrifice your safety and autonomy for someone else. This episode includes resources for those seeking support and additional tools for teaching all three parts of this lesson.
